Vanguard Academy Students Get Ahead Through Nursing Certification

On Thursday, September 23, 11 Mozart and Rembrandt Secondary students graduated with their Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate (CNA) license.
“We are excited to be able to be a part of this pilot program,” said Career and Technical Education Director Cesar Garcia.  “…it also shows the caliber of students that we have here at Vanguard Academy where students are always finding opportunities to continue to learn, grow, and challenge themselves. We are very proud of our graduates.”
Taking each other’s blood pressure and learning to read vital signs, students began the five-week CNA program in July.  The program, PATHS 2 Project, was made possible through Region One ESC in conjunction with DHR Health Clinic and Rio Grande Valley College.
For Mozart Secondary senior, Rolando Porras, the health science field has always sparked an interest for him.
“This program is a stepping stone to starting a career in the medial field,” said Rolando.  “I am excited to be a part of it and to learn as much as I can.”
Mozart Secondary senior also Dania Cruz also agrees.
“This program allows me to get one step closer to becoming a certified nurse and a CRNA,” said Dania.
CNA graduates include: April Brown, Sadie Brown, Debany Yanet Cantu, Dania Katelyn Cruz, John Estrada, Marisoll Garza-Cano, Ashley Hernandez, Andrea Lopez, Elizabeth Mendez, Rolando Porras Jr., and Andres Torres Jr.
