National Fire Prevention Month

Rembrandt Elementary Pre-K3, Pre-K4, and Kinder students had a special visit today. To celebrate Fire Prevention Month, Sparky, along with the Pharr Fire Department visited Pre-K students to speak about fire safety, stop-drop-and-roll, and 911 fire emergency.  The students also had an opportunity to see inside the firetrucks and take pictures with Sparky.

“Our goal today is for students to know what a fireman looks like and not be afraid of us,” City of Pharr Fire Investigator LeeRoy Cantu said.  “We want them to know the importance of having a plan and to demonstrate to them what to do in case of a fire.”

October is Fire Prevention Month and brings awareness to fire safety.  In 1922, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) named the second week of October Fire Prevention Week in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.
