Joshua Reyna named TCLP Student of the Month / Joshua Reyna nombrado Estudiante del Mes de TCLP

Joshua Reyna, a junior at Beethoven Secondary, has been selected as Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP) Student of the Month for January 2022.  TCLP Mandarin instructor, Zeng Xiaolian, nominated Reyna.

“Joshua is not only very active in the Chinese club, but has a deep passion for learning and mastering different languages,” Mrs. Xiaolian said.  “I could not be prouder of Joshua for this recognition.”

Aside from being named Student of the Month, Reyna is also the first Vanguard Academy student to be selected as TCLP Student of the Month.

“I am very honored and humbled by this recognition,” he said.  “I enjoy learning different languages and feel it is important and beneficial for any career pathway.”

Reyna said his passion for other languages stemmed from when he was younger and “my parents pushed me to learn Spanish, but I also felt other languages were even more beautiful.” Aside from Mandarin, Reyna is also learning French and Swedish language.

Reyna is also an active member of the Environmental Club and currently taking dual enrollment courses to reach his educational goals. After high school, Reyna plans to obtain a college degree in business or architecture.

“Language opens many doors,” Reyna said.  “In the future I would like to work with people with diverse cultures and backgrounds—this is exciting!”
