Our robotics students attended the event hosted by Royal Technologies and FIRST RGV to tour a 337,000 sq ft advanced manufacturing facility in Mission, Texas
This opportunity was part of the global Manufacturing Day initiative that creates awareness for industry opportunities in the creation and maintenance of advanced manufacturing systems. We lovingly call them “robots”.
This tour allowed students in groups to be guided through the facility by a member of the facilities team and hear about the progress in this emerging field that is offering more and more opportunities here in the Rio Grande Valley. The students who attended were 10th graders in Principles. of Engineering and Robotics interested in a career in Advanced and Precision Manufacturing
Students toured the plant and witnessed the process that starts as beads of plastic which is fed into the machine by vacuum. Those beads are then forced into a heated barrel, mixed and injected into a mold cavity, where it cools and hardens into the shape of the mold. The were able to learn how every day plastic objects are made and how much engineering goes behind an automation of a plant like Royal Technologies is.
