TEA - Attendance Reporting Guidelines "How to get a PRESENT"

TEA Attendance Guidelines

A student not actually on campus at the time attendance is taken MAY be considered in attendance for FSP purposes if the student: OR see page 59 of the TEA Student Attendance Handbook below.

 

  1. Is enrolled and attending off-campus Dual Enrollment Credit Program.

  2. is enrolled in a work based program COOP.

  3. Is enrolled full-time in a Texas Virtual School Network.

  4. Participating in an activity (field trip) approved by your local school board accompanied by a certified district teacher.

  5. Participating with the a short term class for the Texas School for the Blind & Visually Impaired or Deaf (5 days).

  6. Misses for observing religious holy days.(Baptism christening, bar mitzvahs, etc. are not considered. Travel: to and from included).

  7. Participating in a "TAPS" Military Funeral for deceased veterans - student is grade 6th-12th.

  8. Misses for Court Appearance (federal or state). The document must be provided with the student's name on it stating "YOU MUST APPEAR" or "COURT APPEARANCE REQUIRED." (court mandates student in a criminal, civil, traffic, adoption, custody,..etc.) (appearances outside of the court are not acceptable, or probation officer visits, etc..)

  9. In the conservatorship of the Department of Family & Protective Services and misses school: (a)participate in an activity ordered by Court under the Texas Family Code (b) attend a mental health or therapy appointment or family visitation as ordered by the court under the Texas Family Code.

  10. Purpose to serve as an Election Clerk and at least 16yrs old, be U.S. citizen completed the training course required by the Texas Election Code.

  11. Misses for the purpose to appear at a governmental office TO COMPLETE paperwork required in connection with the student's application for U.S. Citizenship- documentation required.

  12. Misses for the purpose of the STUDENT own U.S. Naturalization Oath Ceremony-documentation required.

  13. Is TEMPORARILY absent because of a documented appointment for the student OR STUDENT'S CHILD, that is with a Health Care Professional licensed to practice in the U.S. To be considered temporarily absent, the student must begin classes OR return to class on the same day of the appointment. The appointment should be supported by a document note from the physician. Including applied behavior analysis, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.

  14. Absent as a result of a serious or life threatening illness or related treatment which makes student's attendance INFEASIBLE. The discharge summary from the outpatient day treatment or partial hospitalization program must include treatment admission and discharge dates to be provided to the school by the family upon return to school as documentation to excuse absences for the duration of the authorized outpatient treatment plan or partial hospitalization.

  15. Student's Junior of Senior Year for the purpose of visiting an institution or higher education accredited by a generally recognized accrediting organization to determine the students' interest in attending the institution.

  16. Leaves to pursue/enlist in the Armed Forces/National Guard (4 days)- student must be 17yrs old.

  17. Absent to visit with a parent, stepparent, or legal guardian who is an active duty member of the uniformed services and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or is immediately returned from continuous deployment of at least four months outside the locality where the parent, stepparent, or legal guardian regularly resides (5 days).

  18. HS/ECC - misses school for the purpose of visiting a TX Dept. of Motor Vehicle to obtain a driver's license or permit.  Receipt is required. Student must be 15 yrs of age or older.
