We continue to pray for the well-being of all families as we are all recovering from the winter storm that hit our area and disrupted critical services last week.

We would like to share that Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission has received federal approval to allow Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to apply for replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed due to the severe winter weather. SNAP recipients who have had food lost or destroyed due to the storm need to apply for replacement food benefits for regular SNAP allotments and SNAP emergency allotments that were provided in response to COVID-19.

If any our families lost food due to the freeze and power outages we encourage you to take advantage of this blessing and request replacement food benefits by dialing 2-1-1 and selecting option 2, or by downloading the Form H1855 (Affidavit for Nonreceipt or Destroyed Food Stamp Benefits) on the HHSC website. Congratulations to both Vanguard Academy Beethoven Secondary, and Rembrandt Secondary Theater One Act Play!  On Feb 22, 2021 at the Texas Southmost College Campus in Brownsville, UIL District Competition.  Rembrandt Secondary, under the direction of Ms. Emily Fierros, Theater Teacher and her assistant Corando Trevino won Alternate Place and Beethoven Secondary won an opportunity to Advance to Bi-District Competition.  Beethoven is under the direction of Mrs. Abigail Muniz Garcia, Theater Teacher and her assistant Paul Alvarez.  Beethoven students did an awesome job, in only their second year of UIL Competition.  We are expecting big things from these two group of students in the coming years. Once again Congratulations.

In their website excelined.org a blog post describes Vanguard Academy’s growth, program improvements, and new initiatives that have been implemented to support Vanguard Academy’s goal of preparing students for postsecondary success. Some of these initiatives include: TSTEM Early College High School, PK3 Program, Dual Language Program, GEARUP, free dual credit courses, 1:1 technology, post-secondary support, and scholarships for graduating seniors.
