Desktop Troubleshooting Guide

Welcome to the Vanguard Academy Technology Department's Desktop Troubleshooting Guide! Below are some basic troubleshooting steps you can follow if you encounter issues with your computer. These steps are designed to help you quickly resolve common problems and get back to teaching without delay.

Check Power Connections

  • Ensure that the power cable is securely plugged into both the wall outlet and the back of your computer.
  • Verify that the power switch on the monitor and computer tower is turned on.

Monitor Not Displaying

  • Make sure the monitor is properly connected to the computer's video output port (VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.).
  • Try turning the monitor off and then back on again.
  • If using multiple monitors, check if the correct input source is selected on the monitor.
Restart the Computer
  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve many issues. Save any open files and restart your computer.
  • If the computer is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until it shuts down, then turn it back on.

Check Peripherals

  • Ensure that all peripheral devices such as keyboard, mouse, and speakers are properly connected to the computer.
  • If using a wired keyboard or mouse, try connecting them to different USB ports.

Check for Error Messages

  • Take note of any error messages or unusual behavior displayed on the screen. This information can help diagnose the problem more accurately.
